Product Description

Doublecortin also known as DCX is a cytoplasmic protein and contains two doublecortin domains, which bind microtubules. Doublecortin plays a vital role in stabilizing microtubules, which is essential for proper migration of neurons during cerebral cortex development. By facilitating transport of neuronal precursors to appropriate locations, Doublecortin ensures formation of a functional and structurally sound brain. Mutations in the DCX gene lead to severe mental retardation and abnormal brain architecture, causing neurodevelopmental disorders such as lissencephaly and double cortex syndrome. Doublecortin maintains structural integrity of neuronal processes, crucial for synaptic plasticity and overall brain function.
