Product Description

β-galactosidaseis also also known GLB1, BGAL, β-Gal is a member of the glycosyl hydrolase 35 family of proteins. β-galactosidase plays a crucial role in hydrolyzing terminal galactose residues from glycoproteins and glycolipids, which is essential for various biological processes, including cellular signaling and metabolism. β-galactosidase enzymatic activity is particularly important in lysosomal storage disorders, where deficiency can lead to toxic substrate accumulation. β-galactosidase exists as a tetramer, with each subunit containing an active site capable of independently catalyzing galactose cleavage, and monovalent cations can enhance enzymatic activity.
