Product Description

SGLT-1 also known as SLC5A1 is a member of the sodium-dependent glucose transporter (SGLT) family. SGLT-1 is a high-affinity membrane transporter that couples Na⁺ influx to glucose and galactose uptake across epithelial barriers, particularly in the small intestine and renal proximal tubule. By driving secondary active transport, SGLT-1 helps regulate cellular energy supply and contributes to transepithelial solute and water movement, intersecting with ion homeostasis and metabolic stress responses. Altered SLC5A1 activity or expression is linked to intestinal glucose-galactose malabsorption and has been studied in contexts where nutrient absorption and epithelial transport are remodeled, including diabetes-associated physiology and gastrointestinal disorders. As a brush-border transporter, SGLT-1 is also used as a marker and functional readout in epithelial differentiation and barrier models.
