Melan-A also known as MART-1 is a melanocyte differentiation antigen that is specific to melanomas, melanocyte cell lines and retina. Melan-A plays a crucial role in the immune response against melanoma, as this protein is specifically expressed in melanomas, melanocyte cell lines, and retinal tissues. Melan-A expression is vital because this protein serves as a target for cytotoxic T lymphocytes, which are essential for recognizing and eliminating cancer cells. Notably, Melan-A peptide is recognized by a majority of HLA-A2-restricted tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes in melanoma patients, highlighting Melan-A′s potential as a candidate for antigen-specific immunotherapy. |
