STAMBP also known as AMSH is a 424 amino acid protein that belongs to the peptidase M67C family and is ubiquitously expressed in various tissues. STAMBP functions as a zinc metalloprotease that specifically cleaves ′Lys-63′-linked polyubiquitin chains, which is essential for regulating protein degradation and cellular signaling pathways. By opposing ubiquitin-dependent sorting of receptors to lysosomes, STAMBP plays a significant role in signal transduction related to cell growth and induction of Myc mediated by interleukin-2 and granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor. STAMBP enhances bone morphogenetic protein signaling by counteracting inhibitory effects of Smad6 and Smad7, making STAMBP a vital player in various cellular processes. |
