| Product Description | |
FTO also known as Fatso, ALKBH9 is a nuclear protein of the AlkB related non-haem iron and 2-oxoglutarate-dependent oxygenase superfamily but the exact physiological function of this gene is not known. FTO plays a significant role in regulating energy homeostasis and fat metabolism. FTO expression is notably high in brain and pancreatic tissues, and Fatso exists in four alternatively spliced isoforms, one of which has been linked to a predisposition for obesity in both children and adults. This connection to obesity suggests that Fatso may influence body mass index and contribute to the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes, a major health concern worldwide. |
