Product Description

MCM5 also known as Cdc46 is a member of the MCM family of chromatin-binding proteins and can interact with at least two other members of this family. MCM5 plays a crucial role in DNA replication as a member of the mini-chromosome maintenance (MCM) protein family, which is essential for ensuring that DNA replication occurs only once per cell cycle. This regulation is vital for maintaining genomic stability, as improper replication can lead to mutations and cancer. MCM5, along with other MCM proteins, is involved in the formation of the MCM2-7 complex, which acts as a helicase to unwind DNA during replication. MCM5 is particularly important during the transition from the G1 to S phase of the cell cycle, where expression peaks, indicating an active role in preparing the cell for DNA synthesis.
