Product Description

Presenilin 2 plays a crucial role in processing amyloid precursor protein (APP), which is significant because improper processing can lead to amyloid-beta peptide accumulation, a hallmark of Alzheimer′s disease. Presenilin 2 is primarily located in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus, where Presenilin 2 participates in forming the gamma-secretase complex, essential for cleaving APP. Presenilin 2 interaction with other proteins, such as nicastrin and Aph-1, is vital for assembly and function of this complex, highlighting Presenilin 2′s importance in maintaining cellular homeostasis and preventing neurodegeneration. Mutations in the gene encoding Presenilin 2 have been linked to familial forms of early-onset Alzheimer′s disease, underscoring Presenilin 2′s relevance in neurodegenerative disorders.
