FATP4 also konnw as ACSVL4, SLC27A4 is a member of a family of fatty acid transport proteins, which are involved in translocation of long-chain fatty acids cross the plasma membrane. FATP4 plays a crucial role in fatty acid metabolism as a member of the acyl-coenzyme A synthetase (ACS) family, which is responsible for catalyzing the initial reaction in the activation of fatty acids. Specifically, FATP4 is involved in the transport and activation of long-chain and very long-chain fatty acids, which are essential for various cellular processes, including energy production and membrane synthesis. FATP4′s unique expression patterns in key organs such as adipose tissue, liver, heart, and kidney highlight its importance in maintaining metabolic homeostasis. |
