USP13(ubiquitin specific peptidase 13) also known as ISOT3 is an 863 amino acid protein that plays a crucial role in the ubiquitin-proteasome system, which is essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis by regulating protein degradation and turnover. USP13 is primarily located in the cytoplasm and nucleus, where USP13 is involved in the deubiquitination process, removing ubiquitin from substrates and thereby influencing various cellular functions, including signal transduction and transcriptional regulation. USP13′s ability to modulate the ubiquitination status of target proteins is vital for processes such as cell cycle progression and response to stress, making USP13 an important player in cellular signaling pathways. With a unique structure, which includes one UBP-type zinc finger and two UBA domains, USP13 is highly expressed in testicular and ovarian tissues, underscoring USP13′s significance in reproductive biology. |
