Product Description

Argonaute 2 also known as eIF2C2, AGO2 is a member of the Argonaute family of proteins which play a crucial role in RNA interference (RNAi) as integral components of the RNA-inducible silencing complex (RISC) and microRNA (miRNA)-containing ribonucleoprotein particles (miRNPs). Argonaute 2 localizes in cytoplasmic processing bodies (P-bodies), where Argonaute 2 catalyzes mRNA cleavage. This function is vital for the regulation of gene expression, allowing for the degradation of target mRNAs, thereby influencing various cellular processes such as development, differentiation, and response to stress. The interaction of Argonaute 2 with small RNAs, including small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) and miRNAs, facilitates the silencing of target genes, which is essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis and regulating gene expression in response to environmental cues. Argonaute 2 works in concert with other eIF2C proteins, such as eIF2C1 (argonaute 1) and Dicer1, to ensure effective gene silencing through a coordinated mechanism.
