Aurora B/Aurora C belong to the Aurora subfamily of serine/threonine protein kinases. Aurora B ensures proper cytokinesis and prevents aneuploidy, a condition that can lead to cancer. Aurora B expression peaks during the S and G2/M phases of the cell cycle, highlighting Aurora B′s importance in the later stages of cell division. Aurora C is a chromosomal passenger protein that forms complexes with Aurora B and inner centromere proteins and may play a role in organizing microtubules in relation to centrosome/spindle function during mitosis. Aurora C is overexpressed in several cancer cell lines, suggesting an involvement in oncogenic signal transduction. |
