RSK4 also known as p90RSK6 is a member of the ribosomal S6 kinase family. RSK4 plays a crucial role in cellular signaling pathways, particularly in response to receptor tyrosine kinase activation. One notable aspect of RSK4 includes two non-identical kinase catalytic domains, a feature essential for serine/threonine kinase function. This structural characteristic allows RSK4 to effectively phosphorylate target substrates, influencing various cellular processes such as growth, differentiation, and survival. RSK4 is predominantly expressed in brain and kidney, highlighting importance in normal neuronal development and renal function. RSK4 shares high homology with other Rsk family members, including RSK1, RSK2, and RSK3, underscoring potential roles in similar signaling pathways. The Rsk family also includes p70 S6 kinase and p70 S6 kinase β, which have analogous regulatory functions, further emphasizing RSK4′s significance in cellular signaling networks. |
