Transgelin 2 also known as TAGLN2 is similar to the protein transgelin, which is one of the earliest markers of differentiated smooth muscle. Transgelin 2 plays a crucial role in regulating smooth muscle contraction and cellular motility, making transgelin-2 important for maintaining vascular integrity and responding to injury. Transgelin 2 is predominantly expressed in smooth muscle cells and peritoneal B-1 cells, and TAGLN2 is located on chromosome 1q23.1-q25, encoding a 199 amino acid protein that features a calponin-like repeat and a calponin-homology domain. Transgelin-2′s structural characteristics, particularly its ability to bind actin, are vital for function, as Transgelin 2 facilitates gelling of actin fibers, which is essential for cytoskeletal organization and cellular shape. |
