CGRP1 also known as CALCA is a peptide of 37 amino acids that belongs to the calcitonin (CT) family of peptide hormones. CGRP1 plays a crucial role in vasodilation and pain pathway modulation, making CGRP1 significant in migraine and other vascular disorders. CGRP1 is synthesized and released from sensory neurons. CGRP presence in these locations is vital for mediating neurogenic inflammation and regulating blood flow, particularly in conditions such as migraine, where CGRP1 levels are often elevated. The CGRP gene, CALCA, undergoes alternative splicing to produce different isoforms, including CGRP1 and CGRP2, which exhibit distinct biological activities. |
