Product Description

Periostin also known as OSF2, POSTN is a secreted extracellular matrix protein that functions in tissue development and regeneration, including wound healing, and ventricular remodeling following myocardial infarction. Periostin plays a crucial role in cell adhesion and migration, particularly in bone and tissue remodeling. Periostin serves as a ligand for alpha(V)beta(3) and alpha(V)beta(5) integrins, facilitating osteoblast recruitment and attachment, essential for bone formation and repair. Periostin is predominantly found in the lower gastrointestinal tract, aorta, stomach, placenta, uterus, and breast tissues, with notable up-regulation in epithelial ovarian tumors and overexpression in breast cancer, highlighting potential roles in tumor progression and metastasis. Periostin expression is influenced by bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP2) and transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF β 1), indicating involvement in various signaling pathways that regulate cellular processes.
