Renin plays a crucial role as a highly specific endopeptidase that catalyzes the conversion of angiotensinogen into Angiotensin I, which is subsequently transformed into Angiotensin II by angiotensin-converting enzyme I (ACE). This process is vital for the regulation of blood pressure and electrolyte balance, making Renin a key player in the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS). The release of Renin is stimulated by sympathetic nervous system activation, renal artery hypotension, and reduced sodium delivery to the distal tubules of the kidney, highlighting its importance in maintaining cardiovascular homeostasis. |
