Product Description

SDHB is a dual-function enzyme that couples the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle to the electron transport chain by catalyzing succinate oxidation and transferring electrons to ubiquinone. By sustaining mitochondrial respiration and redox balance, SDHB influences oxidative phosphorylation, reactive oxygen species signaling, and cellular metabolic state. SDHB plays a crucial role in the mitochondrial respiratory chain, specifically as part of the succinate dehydrogenase complex, which is essential for aerobic respiration. This complex catalyzes the oxidation of succinate to fumarate, a key step in the tricarboxylic acid cycle, linking the metabolic pathways of the Krebs cycle and oxidative phosphorylation. Proper functioning of SDHB is vital for energy production in cells, and mutations in SDHB can lead to significant mitochondrial dysfunction, resulting in various hereditary disorders.
