GLI2 also known as GLI family zinc finger 2 is a protein which belongs to the C2H2-type zinc finger protein subclass of the Gli family. GLI2 functions as a crucial transcriptional activator in regulating gene expression during embryonic development. GLI-2 localizes in the nucleus, influencing various developmental processes and cellular functions. GLI-2 involvement in the Sonic Hedgehog signaling pathway proves essential for proper tissue patterning and organogenesis. Mutations or dysregulation of GLI-2 can lead to developmental disorders such as holoprosencephaly type 9, highlighting GLI-2′s critical role in embryogenesis. GLI-2 gene is located on human chromosome 2q14.2 and produces five alternatively spliced isoforms, each potentially contributing to diverse functional roles in cellular processes. |
