GM130 also known as Golgin A2, GOLGA2 is a crucial cis-Golgi matrix protein. GM130 plays a crucial role in the organization and function of the Golgi apparatus, serving as a cis-Golgi matrix protein that is essential for the docking of transport vesicles to their target membranes. GM130′s amino-terminus specifically binds to p115, facilitating the formation of a membrane docking site, while GM130′s carboxy-terminus anchors to Golgi membranes. This interaction is vital for vesicle tethering, which is a key step in the transport of proteins from the endoplasmic reticulum to the Golgi compartments. Notably, GM130 undergoes mitotic phosphorylation at Serine 25 by Cdc2, a modification that disrupts binding to p115 and contributes to Golgi fragmentation during mitosis. |
