LYVE1(Lymphatic vessel endothelial hyaluronan receptor 1) plays a crucial role in the lymphatic system by mediating the interaction between lymphatic endothelial cells and hyaluronan, a glycosaminoglycan that is abundant in the extracellular matrix. This interaction is vital for maintaining lymphatic vessel integrity and facilitating lymphatic transport, which is essential for immune responses and tissue homeostasis. LYVE1 is predominantly expressed on the surface of lymphatic endothelial cells and is significantly involved in lymphangiogenesis, the formation of new lymphatic vessels from pre-existing ones, which is particularly important in the context of tumor progression and metastasis. LYVE1 binds to both soluble and immobilized hyaluronan with greater specificity than other receptors, such as HCAM, and is completely absent from blood vessels, underscoring LYVE1′s unique role in lymphatic biology. |
