AP-2β also known as AP2B, TFAP2B a member of the AP-2 family of transcription factors. AP-2β functions as a key member of the AP-2 transcription factor family, which includes AP-2α and AP-2γ, and binds to the DNA consensus sequence CCCCAGGC to initiate transcription of specific genes. AP-2β, a splice variant of AP-2α, regulates gene expression related to cell growth and differentiation, particularly in breast cancer, where AP-2β inhibits AP-2 activity and modulates the expression of proto-oncogene c-ErbB-2, which is overexpressed in 25-30% of breast cancers. AP-2β′s interaction with other transcription factors, such as the OB2-1 complex, highlights AP-2β′s significance in cellular processes and potential as a therapeutic target. |
