AKAP1 also known as AKAP149 is a member of the AKAP family. AKAP1 plays a crucial role in the spatial and temporal regulation of signaling pathways by anchoring protein kinase A (PKA) to specific cellular locations, which is essential for maintaining PKA signaling specificity. This compartmentalization allows for precise control over various cellular processes, including metabolism, gene expression, and cell growth. AKAP1 a splice variant of S-AKAP84, is particularly important in the phosphorylation-dependent regulation of RNA processing, highlighting its role in gene expression regulation. Additionally, AKAP1 interacts with other proteins, such as MAP2 and neuronally expressed AKAP79 and AKAP150, which further emphasizes its significance in diverse cellular functions and tissue specificity. |
