GPRC5A also known as RAIG1, RAI3 is a member of the type 3 G protein-coupling receptor family, characterized by the signature 7-transmembrane domain motif. GPRC5A plays a crucial role in various biological processes, including embryogenesis, cell growth, differentiation, and apoptosis, making RAI3 essential for normal cellular function and development. RAI3 is primarily located in the cell membrane, where RAI3 facilitates communication between the extracellular environment and intracellular signaling pathways, thus influencing cellular responses to external stimuli. Notably, RAI3 expression is often upregulated in tumor cell lines harboring mutant p53, indicating a potential interaction between p53 and RAI3 promoter that may repress expression during early stages of apoptosis. |
