Integrin α6 also known as CD49f, ITGA6 is a member of the integrin alpha chain family of proteins. Integrin α6 are crucial for cell adhesion to the extracellular matrix through binding to laminin. Integrin α6 protein′s structure features a large extracellular domain responsible for ligand binding, a single transmembrane helix, and a short cytoplasmic tail that interacts with intracellular signaling molecules and cytoskeletal proteins such as talin and vinculin. This structural configuration is essential for its role in bidirectional signal transduction between the cell interior and its external environment. The integrity of Integrin α6′s structure is vital for processes such as cell migration, proliferation, differentiation, and survival, as Integrin α6 mediates both mechanical anchoring and the activation of signaling pathways. |
