AGT(Angiotensinogen) is the primary precursor of angiotensins, peptide hormones that plays a significant role in regulating blood pressure and fluid balance in the body. AGT is produced from angiotensinogen, a precursor synthesized in the liver, and is subsequently converted into Angiotensin II by the action of the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). This conversion is vital as Angiotensin II is a potent vasoconstrictor that not only elevates blood pressure but also stimulates the release of aldosterone, promoting sodium retention and increasing blood volume. The regulation of Angiotensin I and its conversion to Angiotensin II is essential for maintaining cardiovascular homeostasis, and dysregulation of this pathway can lead to hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases. |
