Product Description

Lipin 1 also known as LPIN1 is a magnesium-ion-dependent phosphatidic acid phosphohydrolase enzyme that catalyzes the penultimate step in triglyceride synthesis including the dephosphorylation of phosphatidic acid to yield diacylglycerol. Lipin 1 plays a pivotal role in lipid metabolism and energy homeostasis, functioning as a phosphatidate phosphatase that converts phosphatidate to diacylglycerol, a key step in triglyceride synthesis. This enzymatic activity is crucial for the regulation of lipid storage and mobilization, impacting overall metabolic health. Dysregulation of Lipin 1 can lead to metabolic disorders, including insulin resistance and lipodystrophy, highlighting Lipin 1′s importance in maintaining normal adipose tissue function.
