| Product Description | |
FTH1 also known as FTH, Ferritin heavy chain 1 plays a crucial role in iron metabolism, primarily by catalyzing the oxidation of ferrous iron (FeII) to ferric iron (FeIII), which is essential for safe iron storage within cells. This process is vital because excess free iron can generate harmful reactive oxygen species, leading to cellular damage. By facilitating the initial step of iron storage, FTH1 helps maintain cellular iron homeostasis and protects against oxidative stress. Additionally, FTH1 is implicated in the regulation of thymidine biosynthesis, enhancing the expression of cytoplasmic serine hydroxymethyltransferase, a key enzyme in the synthesis of thymidylat. |
