UTX also known as KDM6A is a crucial 1401 amino acid nuclear protein that plays a significant role in the regulation of gene expression through its function as a histone demethylase. By demethylating lysine residues on Histone H3, UTX modulates the histone code, which is essential for proper regulation of Hox gene expression, influencing developmental processes and cellular differentiation. UTX interacts with TLE1 (transducin-like enhancer of split 1), and together they act as transcriptional repressors, highlighting UTX′s importance in the Notch signaling pathway, which governs critical cellular interactions and fate specification in both vertebrates and invertebrates. |
