NONO also known as p54, NRB a nuclear RNA-binding protein. NONO plays a crucial role in gene expression regulation by participating in paraspeckle formation, which are subnuclear structures involved in RNA storage and processing. These paraspeckles are essential for proper RNA localization and transcriptional activity regulation, particularly under stress conditions. The dynamic movement of p54/nrb between the nucleolus and paraspeckles highlights its importance in cellular responses to transcriptional inhibition, as p54/nrb translocates to distinct caps in the nucleolar periphery. p54/nrb contains two RNA recognition motifs and shares significant homology with human splicing factor PSF and Drosophila NONA/BJ6, which is vital for normal vision and courtship behaviors. |
