| Product Description | |
Atg4C is a member of the C-54 family of cysteine proteases. Atg4C plays a crucial role in autophagy process, essential for cellular homeostasis and degradation of damaged organelles and proteins. Atg4C is predominantly expressed in skeletal muscle, heart, liver, and testis, where Atg4C localizes to cytoplasm. As a cysteine protease, Atg4C is responsible for cleaving C-terminal region of proteins such as MAP1LC3, GABARAPL2, or GABARAP, thereby facilitating formation of autophagosomes. Regulation of Atg4C activity is also significant, as N-ethylmaleimide can inhibit Atg4C, highlighting Atg4C′s importance in autophagy pathway and potential implications in cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. |
