| Product Description | |
The serum- and glucocorticoid-regulated kinases (SGKs) include SGK1, SGK2 and SGK3 and are members of the serine/threonine protein kinase family. SGK2 is a serine/threonine protein kinase. Although SGK2 is similar to serum- and glucocorticoid-induced protein kinase (SGK), SGK2 is not induced by serum or glucocorticoids. SGK2 is induced in response to signals that activate phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase, which is also true for SGK. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.SGK2 is primarily expressed in the liver, kidney, and pancreas, where SGK2 is involved in regulating various physiological processes. SGK2 activates specific ion channels, such as epithelial sodium channels (ENaC), which are vital for maintaining sodium balance and fluid homeostasis in the body. This regulation is particularly important in the context of renal function and blood pressure control, as SGK2 influences sodium reabsorption in the kidneys. Additionally, SGK2 is a downstream target of phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) signaling, linking growth factor signaling to the modulation of ion transport and cell survival. |
