| Product Description | |
Ape1 also known as Ref-1, Redox factor 1 is a multifunctional protein with several biological activities. These include roles in DNA repair and in the cellular response to oxidative stress. Ape1 plays a crucial role in DNA repair and redox regulation of transcription factors, which is vital for maintaining cellular homeostasis and responding to oxidative stress. Located primarily in the nucleus, Ape1 is essential for the repair of apurinic/apyrimidinic sites in DNA, which can arise from oxidative damage or spontaneous hydrolysis. This repair function is critical because unrepaired DNA lesions can lead to mutations, genomic instability, and contribute to the development of various diseases, including cancer. Additionally, Ape1′s redox modulation of transcription factors enhances DNA binding activity, thereby influencing gene expression in response to cellular stress. |
