Product Description

IDE(Insulin degrading enzyme) is a zinc metallopeptidase that degrades intracellular insulin, and thereby terminates insulins activity, as well as participating in intercellular peptide signalling by degrading diverse peptides such as glucagon, amylin, bradykinin, and kallidin. IDE plays a crucial role in regulating insulin levels by initiating insulin cleavage, which is vital for maintaining glucose homeostasis. Beyond insulin metabolism, IDE is also involved in amyloid-β peptide degradation, linking IDE to age-related neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer′s disease. IDE gene, located on chromosome 10q23.3, is essential for proper balance of both glucose and amyloid peptide levels in the brain; alterations in IDE expression can lead to significant changes in these processes.
