DDX5 also known as HUMP68 is a member of the DEAD box family of RNA helicases. DDX5 plays a crucial role in RNA metabolism, exhibiting RNA-dependent ATPase activity essential for unwinding RNA structures during processes such as transcription and translation. This activity facilitates proper processing of pre-mRNA and regulation of gene expression. DDX5 participates in organ differentiation during development and is expressed in early neural development, highlighting significance in embryonic growth and tissue formation. DDX5 localizes to the nucleus under normal conditions, interacting with transcriptional coactivators such as CBP and p300, further emphasizing a role in gene regulation. Phosphorylation by protein kinase C can inhibit DDX5 activity, indicating post-translational modifications significantly influence function. |
