Sox9 recognizes the sequence CCTTGAG along with other members of the HMG-box class DNA-binding proteins. Sox-9 plays a crucial role in the regulation of chondrogenesis and is essential for cartilage development and male gonad formation. Sox-9 acts as a transcription factor that binds to specific DNA sequences, influencing the expression of genes involved in these developmental processes.
