Neuropilin-1 also known as VEGF165R, CD304 is a type I transmembrane receptor that plays a crucial role in neural development by guiding axon growth and is also a high-affinity receptor for class III semaphorins and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), making it key in both axonal guidance and angiogenesis. Neuropilin-1 is predominantly expressed in arterial endothelial cells, distinguishing it from its closely related homolog, neuropilin-2, which shares similar structural features but is found in venous and lymphatic endothelial cells.
