p75NTR also known as TNFRSF16, CD271, NGFR p75, NGFR is a member of the TNF receptor superfamily. p75NTR plays a crucial role in the nervous system by modulating the effects of neurotrophic factors, particularly nerve growth factor (NGF). p75NTR is primarily located on the surface of neurons and is essential for neuronal survival and differentiation. By binding to neurotrophic factors with low affinity, p75NTR enhances the signaling efficiency of the high-affinity Trk receptors, such as Trk A, which is vital for the activation of downstream signaling pathways that promote neuronal health and function. The interaction between p75NTR and Trk A not only accelerates the activation of Trk A but also facilitates the recruitment of downstream effector molecules, thereby playing a significant role in the neurotrophic signaling cascade. |
