LAMP2(Lysosomal associated membrane protein 2) also known as CD107b is a member of a family of membrane glycoproteins. LAMP2 plays a critical role in maintaining lysosomal integrity and acidity, protecting the lysosomal membrane from autodigestion, and facilitating autophagy by mediating the fusion of autophagosomes with lysosomes. LAMP2 is synthesized in the endoplasmic reticulum, sorted at the trans-Golgi network, and trafficked to lysosomes via a pathway distinct from clathrin-coated vesicles. LAMP2 localization to the lysosome is essential for function in cellular homeostasis and the degradation of macromolecules. Dysregulation of LAMP2 expression or function is associated with lysosomal storage disorders, such as Danon disease, and altered expression has been implicated in cancer progression and metastasis.
