| Product Description | |
MMP-2 is a member of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) gene family, that are zinc-dependent enzymes capable of cleaving components of the extracellular matrix and molecules involved in signal transduction. MMP-2 plays a crucial role in degrading ECM components including collagen types IV, V, VII, and X, as well as gelatin type I. MMP-2′s extracellular localization enables tissue remodeling, angiogenesis, and wound healing by facilitating ECM barrier breakdown and cellular migration. This localization becomes critical in cancer metastasis, where MMP-2-mediated ECM degradation enables cancer cell invasion and spread. MMP-2 also modulates bioactive ECM molecules, influencing cell signaling pathways governing proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Ras signaling pathway regulates MMP-2 activation and secretion, which require calcium and zinc ions for catalytic activity. |
