CCR2(C-C chemokine receptor type 2) also known as CD192, CKR2 is a receptor for monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, a chemokine which specifically mediates monocyte chemotaxis. CCR2 plays a crucial role in immune response by mediating chemotaxis of monocytes and T cells to sites of inflammation, which is vital for effective immune surveillance and response to pathogens. This 374 amino acid multi-pass membrane protein is expressed in two isoforms, CKR-2A and CKR-2B, both serving as receptors for various chemokines, including monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) and MCP-3. Upon binding to these ligands, CCR2 influences intracellular calcium levels and initiates signal transduction pathways essential for migration and activation of immune cells.
