AKAP95 also known as AKAP8 is a member of the A-kinase anchor protein family. AKAP95′s primary function involves protein kinase A (PKA) signaling compartmentalization, which is essential for maintaining specific localization within the cell. During mitosis, AKAP95 is recruited to chromosomes, playing a pivotal role in mitotic progression. AKAP95 interacts with the RII regulatory subunit of PKA, facilitating precise signaling necessary for various cellular processes. AKAP95 forms a complex with HA95 and histone deacetylase 3 (HDAC3), which is critical for Histone H3 deacetylation during mitosis, thereby influencing gene expression and chromatin structure. AKAP95′s ability to anchor PKA and other signaling molecules underscores its importance in cellular signaling pathways and highlights its potential as a target for therapeutic interventions in diseases where these pathways are dysregulated.
