IL-4(Interleukin-4) also known as BCGF1, BSF is a pleiotropic cytokine produced by activated T cells. IL-4 plays a crucial role in the immune system by promoting the growth and differentiation of immune cells, particularly by enhancing the Th2 cell lineage while suppressing Th1 responses. IL-4′s importance extends to inducing immunoglobulin class switching, which is vital for effective immune responses. Specifically, IL-4 stimulates B cells to produce immunoglobulin E (IgE) and enhances the secretion of immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4), while simultaneously inhibiting the production of other immunoglobulin classes such as IgM, IgA, IgG1, IgG2, and IgG3. The regulation of these immunoglobulin classes is essential for maintaining a balanced immune response and preventing allergic reactions.
