Product Description

MBP(Myelin Basic Protein) is a major constituent of the myelin sheath of oligodendrocytes and Schwann cells in the nervous system. MBP plays a crucial role in the formation and maintenance of the myelin sheath, which insulates nerve fibers and facilitates efficient signal transmission in the central nervous system. MBP′s structure is characterized by its highly basic nature, allowing interaction with negatively charged lipids in the myelin membrane, thereby stabilizing the myelin sheath. This structural integrity is vital for proper neuronal function, as disruptions in myelin can lead to severe neurological disorders, including multiple sclerosis. Furthermore, MBP undergoes post-translational modifications, such as phosphorylation, which are essential for regulating function and stability during myelinogenesis and in response to neuronal activity.
