| Product Description | |
DNA Polymerase gamma also known as POLG is the catalytic subunit of mitochondrial DNA polymerase. DNA Polymerase gamm plays a vital role in the replication of mitochondrial DNA, which is essential for maintaining cellular energy production and overall cellular function. Unlike nuclear DNA, mitochondrial DNA is inherited maternally and is crucial for encoding proteins involved in the electron transport chain, which is responsible for ATP synthesis. Proper functioning of DNA pol gamma is therefore critical, as mutations or deficiencies can lead to mitochondrial diseases, characterized by energy deficits and a range of clinical manifestations. DNA Polymerase gamm is unique among DNA polymerases as the only one specifically required for mitochondrial DNA replication, highlighting DNA Polymerase gamm′s importance in both cellular metabolism and genetic stability. |
