| Product Description | |
PGAM1 is a member of the phosphoglycerate mutase family. PGAM1 plays a crucial role in cellular metabolism, specifically in the interconversion of 3-phosphoglycerate and 2-phosphoglycerate, which are key intermediates in glycolysis and gluconeogenesis. This enzymatic activity is vital for maintaining energy homeostasis and supporting cellular functions, particularly in tissues with high metabolic demands. PGAM1, along with its isozyme PGAM2, can form homodimers or heterodimers, with PGAM1 predominantly expressed in various tissues while PGAM2 is primarily found in skeletal muscle, mature sperm cells, and the heart. The unique dimerization of these proteins allows for fine-tuning of metabolic pathways, making PGAM1 an important target for studying metabolic disorders and potential therapeutic interventions. |
