ARALAR also known as AGC1, SLC25A12 is a calcium-binding mitochondrial carrier protein. ARALAR plays a crucial role in calcium signaling within mitochondria, which is essential for the organelle′s response to various extracellular stimuli. ARALAR is primarily located in the inner mitochondrial membrane, where ARALAR facilitates the transport of aspartate and glutamate, thereby participating in the malate-aspartate NADH shuttle. ARALAR′s proper functioning is vital for synthesizing brain aspartate and N-acetylaspartate, both of which are important for neuronal health and myelin formation.
