TRIM21 also known as SSA, RO52 is a member of the tripartite motif (TRIM) family. TRIM21 plays a crucial role in immune response, particularly in autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus and Sjogren′s syndrome, where autoantibodies recognize TRIM21 in many patients. TRIM21 protein primarily localizes in cellular cytoplasm and nucleus, regulating RNA metabolism and immune response through interactions with RNA molecules and other proteins to form essential ribonucleoprotein complexes. Antibodies against TRIM21 appear in most patients with primary Sjögren syndrome and related autoimmune conditions, highlighting clinical significance in disease pathology.
