WTAP is a crucial nuclear protein that plays a significant role in regulating mRNA splicing and cell cycle progression, particularly during G2/M transition. WTAP interacts with Wilms′ tumor protein (WT1), known for functioning as a transcriptional repressor, and this interaction maintains proper gene expression and cellular function. WTAP is predominantly located in nuclear speckles, where WTAP binds to the 3′ untranslated region of cyclin A2, enhancing cyclin A2 stability and influencing cell cycle dynamics. WTAP′s role in regulating cyclin A2 levels underscores WTAP′s potential involvement in tumorigenesis, as dysregulation of cell cycle proteins can lead to uncontrolled cell proliferation.
