Argonaute 2 also known as eIF2C2, AGO2 is a member of the Argonaute family of proteins which play a crucial role in RNA interference (RNAi) as integral components of the RNA-inducible silencing complex (RISC) and microRNA (miRNA)-containing ribonucleoprotein particles (miRNPs). Argonaute 2 localizes in cytoplasmic processing bodies (P-bodies), where Argonaute 2 catalyzes mRNA cleavage.
